Presented free from 7-8 p.m. by the Elmhurst Public Library, in 1776, signing the Declaration of Independence was not an act of patriotism. It was an act of treason against Great Britain. Who were the 56 men who risked it all to make the strike for independence? Some of their names are familiar. Others, like William Whipple or Button Gwinnett, are not. 72nd annual Pancake Breakfast and Mother’s Day plant sale. Join the Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst at its free 72nd annual Pancake Breakfast and Mother’s Day plant sale from 7:30-11 a.m. at our new location: Stage 119/Modern Plate in Elmhurst City Centre! Characters such as Mickey Mouse, Super Hero’s and more will be onsite from 9-10:30 a.m. for complimentary photos. Characters generously provided by Costumers with a Cause. Mother’s Day plants will also be sold at this event, along with raffles. While the pancake breakfast is free, donations are always welcome. UCCA’s Taste of the Town: Dining for a Cause. From 6-10 p.m. at Wilder Mansion, 211 S. Prospect Ave., United Community Concerns Association (UCCA) will hold the ninth annual Taste of the Town: Dining for a Cause, an Elmhurst food and drink experience, at Wilder Mansion. The evening will showcase food, wine, and beer tastings from 18 Elmhurst businesses. Proceeds from the event will benefit UCCA, an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that fights hunger by providing food, referrals, and services to Elmhurst District 205’s most financially disadvantaged children and their families. Community bicycle ride. From 6:30-7:30 p.m. presented by the Elmhurst Bicycle Club, join the Club for a slow roll ride on low traffic roadways in Elmhurst. 130-plus varieties that include sun and shade perennials, natives, groundcovers, herbs and vegetables. The sale will also feature plants that attract pollinators. Experienced gardeners onsite to answer questions and assist with plant selection. A portion of the plant sales are donated to support community projects. Paying tribute to American heroes at First Congregational UCC. Starting at 10 a.m., the First Congregational UCC of Elmhurst, 235 S. Kenilworth, presents prayerful and thoughtful music paying tribute to our fallen American heroes. Boy Scout troop 82 of Elmhurst will be participating in the service which highlights a very special organization, K9s for Veterans. This amazing organization trains and provides service dogs to veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, helping them transition back to civilian life. Veterans with their dogs will be at the service and speak during a mission moment. Come and support area veterans by participating in our special collection for this meaningful and important charity, and enjoy beautiful music to celebrate the memories of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice as members of the United States military.
