During its April 21 meeting, the Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Board of Education honored York boys basketball coach Mike Dunn, who guided the Dukes to a record-setting 2025-26 season.

The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) recently recognized Dunn with the Coach of the Year award for the recently concluded season. The Dukes posted a 32-6 record during that season. York set a new program record for victories in a season with its 32 wins.

The Dukes posted an 11-1 record in West Suburban Silver Conference play to claim a share of the conference title. York posted five post-season victories this year, winning regional, sectional and super-sectional titles to advance to the IHSA Class 4A state semifinals in Champaign. York lost to Marist—the eventual Class 4A state champion—in a semifinal contest on March 13.

Later that day, DePaul College Prep defeated the Dukes in the Class 4A third-place game. The Dukes’ fourth-place finish in this year’s state tournament marked the boys basketball program’s best finish in school history. Dunn, who is a social studies teacher at York, has been the Dukes’ boys basketball coach for the last six years.

His great grandfather—
Clarence D. East—was York’s first athletic director and served as the school’s first boys basketball coach during the 1920-21 season.
