The Elmhurst City Council has appointed Assistant City Manager Kent Johnson to serve as acting city manager, effective Aug. 3, following the retirement of City Manager James "Jim" Grabowski.
Grabowski is retiring from the City of Elmhurst following more than 15 years of service as city manager.
"Jim has served Elmhurst with integrity, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to the best interests of our community," said Mayor Scott Levin. "We are deeply grateful for his leadership and the many contributions he has made during his more than 15 years as city manager.
“As we celebrate Jim's service and wish him well in retirement, we are fortunate to have an experienced and respected leader in Kent Johnson to help guide the organization through this transition. Kent has been an invaluable member of our leadership team, and his experience, professionalism, and commitment to public service will provide continuity and stability while the City Council conducts a thoughtful and thorough search for Elmhurst's next city manager.”
Johnson has served as assistant city manager and has played a key role in supporting city operations, strategic initiatives, and organizational leadership.
"I am honored by the confidence the Mayor and City Council have placed in me to serve as acting city manager," said Johnson. "Jim has built an exceptional organization supported by talented and dedicated employees, and I look forward to working with our staff, Mayor, and City Council to ensure a seamless transition while continuing to provide the high-quality services our residents, businesses, and community partners expect.”
As acting city manager, Johnson will oversee the city's day-to-day operations while the City Council conducts a nationwide search for Elmhurst's next permanent city manager.
