GreenMan Theatre Storytellers, in collaboration with Elmhurst History Museum, has announced auditions for the museum’s “History of Her: Women Who Shaped Chicagoland” exhibit.
The exhibit will include the biographical monologues of three important Chicago area women from the region’s past: Bertha Honoré Palmer, Audrey Wagner and Frances Willard.
Since the city of Chicago’s establishment in 1833, the city and its surrounding neighborhoods have watched generations of girls grow into influential leaders, innovators, and advocates for their communities.
Bertha Honoré Palmer of Chicago was a hotelier, socialite and art collector.
Bensenville’s Audrey Wagner was an outfielder for the groundbreaking All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during World War II.
Frances Willard was an educator, temperance proponent and suffragette who resided in Evanston.
Those interested in portraying one of these three accomplished women are invited to audition with Greenman Theatre Storytellers.
Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 28, and 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at St. Peter’s UCC, 125 W. Church St., Elmhurst.
“It would be an honor to portray one of these women who were such an important part of Chicago history,” said Carolyn Thomas-Davidoff, GreenMan Theatre Storytellers’ director.
“They were exceptional and stood out in their time.”
Thomas-Davidoff continued: “It’s also a great chance for auditioners to be the star of their own productions while practicing their monologue skills.”
Excerpts from the monologues’ scripts will be available at www.greenmantheatre.org prior to the audition dates.
If there is any available audition time, auditioners may be able to try out for more than one character.
The trio of “History of Her” performances will be free, drop-in, not ticketed events at Elmhurst History Museum.
Each performance will start at 2 p.m. and will last about 10-15 minutes including time for questions at the end.
Performances will be done in costume.
Performance dates are as follows:
• June 20: Bertha Honoré Palmer
• July 11: Audrey Wagner
• Aug. 8: Frances Willard
The Elmhurst History Museum’s “History of Her: Women Who Shaped Chicagoland” exhibit will run from May 29-Aug. 9. The museum is located at 120 E. Park Ave. Questions can be directed to the director’s email at mail@greenmantheatre.org.
