The immediate future looks bright for the IC Catholic Prep girls volleyball team.
Coach Karen Russ’ team returns three starters from a team that finished 12-21 and competed in the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference Red Division.
Back for the Knights are senior Jade Dimitrakos, sophomore Meggie Goggin and junior Libby Phillips.
“Jade, Meggie and Libby, as well as Mia Leichner, Mary Hill and Mia Mendel will help shape our offense and defense this year,” Russ said. “Our strengths will be our passing, defense and serving.”
The Knights are part of the expanded GCAC with the addition of teams from the defunct East Suburban Catholic Conference. ICCP is in the GCAC Blue with Joliet Catholic, Aurora Central Catholic, Chicago Resurrection, Trinity, Chicago De La Salle and Chicago Heights Marian Catholic.
ICCP also will play in four tournaments “that will challenge our team to get us where we need to be at the most important part of our season for a long playoff run,” Russ said.
