Timothy Christian’s Brie Kellough is headed to the Class 1A girls state tennis meet.

Kellough recently took third in the singles division at the Class 1A Chicago De La Salle Sectional held at McKinley Park in Chicago. Kellough is competing in this weekend’s state finals tournament held at various locations around the Northwest suburbs.

Kellough started sectional play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Elmwood Park and then defeated Chicago Payton 6-1, 6-4. In the semifinals, Kellough dropped a 6-4, 6-0 match to Chicago Latin School.

In the third-place match, Kellough defeated Phoebe Hirsh from Chicago Latin School 6-0, 7-6 (4).

Also at De La Salle, Timothy’s Maddie Hostetter went 1-1. Hostetter downed IC Catholic Prep’s Kathryn Anderson 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 and then lost to Latin’s Hirsh in the third round.

On the doubles front, the Timothy team of Laura LaBardi and Allison Tandy also went 1-1 in Chicago at McGuane Park. They defeated the IC Catholic Prep team of Ellie Perez and Paola Michel 6-0, 6-0 but then lost to a team from Chicago Payton 6-2, 6-0 in the third round.

The Trojans team of Brooklyn Bunn and Annika Lemkuil lost 6-3, 6-3 to Nazareth Academy in the second round.

Timothy finished fourth as a team in the sectional with 17 points.

Earlier, the Trojans competed in the Chicagoland Christian Conference tournament where all eight Timothy competitors in the event earned all-conference honors.

Timothy won three flights and placed second in two others at the league tournament.

At No. 1 singles, Kellough downed Marian Central Catholic’s Julia Lukey 6-4, 7-6 to win the league crown.

In the No. 1 doubles final, Timothy’s Tandy and LaBardi defeated the Wheaton Academy team of Rachel Hayes and Claudia Gula 6-4, 6-4 to win the conference title.

At No. 3 doubles, Timothy’s Els Van Den Berg and Heidi Philip defeated Wheaton Academy’s Mirabell Poland and Natalie Brooke 6-3, 6-2 to also win a conference title.

Hostetter finished second at No. 2 singles, while Bunn and Lemkuil took second at No. 2 doubles.

The Trojans finished the regular season with a 12-1 mark in dual meets and finished the regular slate winners of 11 matches in a row. Timothy also won three flights and the Willowbrook and Lemont tournament titles.

“Our team is peaking at the right time,” Timothy coach Rick McLean said last week. “Although we are managing several late-season injuries, we plan to have our six players ready to play well.”
