The boys state cross country champions once again reside in Elmhurst.
York, behind three personal-record times among its scoring five, won the Class 3A boys cross country state championship Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
The title is York’s unprecedented 29th and 57th top-three state finish. York teams have now recorded 62 top 10 state finishes.
It was York’s first boys cross country state title since 2012.
York won the title with 141 points in a competitive field in Peoria. New Trier was second with 155 points, while St. Charles North was third with 160 points and Hinsdale Central was fourth with 174 points.
York junior Patrick Hill finished sixth with a time of 14:18.67 on the three-mile layout. Junior George Knott was 30th with a time of 14:45.12, while junior Michael Gurgone was 42nd in 14:50.50. Those three ran personal-best times.
Senior Harrison Manternach was 54th with a time of 14:57.05, with sophomore Jacob McKillop right behind in 55th with a time of 14:57.23. Manternach’s time was a season-best. Manternach and McKillop’s combined 83 points (41 for Manternach as the 41st runner on a qualifying team to cross the finish line; 42 for McKillop) put the Dukes over the top and on the first-place podium stand.
Comparing York’s point scoring to New Trier, York had 26 points to New Trier’s 30 after two runners. New Trier held a 28-32 edge with the third runner, but York’s fourth and fifth scorers (Manternach and McKillop) turned in those 83 points, while New Trier registered 97 points for its fourth and fifth runners.
Senior Anders Dochoff was 79th with a time of 15:08.32 and junior Jackson Bohlin finished 105th with a time of 15:15.59. Both times were personal bests.
York finished fifth in the state in both 2025 and 2024. Hill was 27th in the state a year ago, while Manternach was 32nd.
The Peoria state title win capped off an undefeated postseason for the Dukes. York won the West Suburban Conference Silver Division title and then won Class 3A regional and sectional team titles before bringing home the grand prize.
