Posted

Lawrence Raymond Wing, known to his family and friends as Larry, passed away on Sept. 5, 2026, at the age of 86. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was centered around the people he loved most.

Larry was born in Union Grove, Wisconsin, on Sept. 17, 1939, to Wayne and Lois (Horn) Wing, both of whom preceded him in death.

Larry dedicated the end of his professional career to serving others as a member of the Vernon Hills Police Department. He retired in 2006, leaving behind a career of service and commitment to his community. Post-retirement he worked with numerous charities including Meals on Wheels, PADS of Lake County, and St. Mary of Vernon Sharing Hands Mission. He also was a long-time member of the Lions Club.

For 64 years, Larry shared his life with his beloved wife, Ellen (Provily) Wing. Their marriage was built on love, faith, commitment, friendship, and a lifetime of shared memories. Through all of life’s seasons, they remained by each other’s side. The life they built together and the family they raised are among Larry’s greatest legacies.

Larry’s Catholic faith was an important part of his life. He was deeply committed to the Catholic Church and found great meaning in his faith and in being part of his church community. Through the Church, Larry formed many of the lifelong friendships that became such an important part of his life. Those friendships, along with his faith, brought him a strong sense of community, fellowship, and connection that he treasured throughout the years.

Larry was a devoted father to his son, David Wing (Kendra), and his daughter, Deborah Tiedeman (Chris). He was a proud grandfather to Jacob, Hannah, and Kaitlin, and he took great pride in his family. He cherished watching his children and grandchildren grow and was grateful for the moments they shared together. His love for his family was constant and unconditional.

Larry also had a lifelong passion for sports. A true die-hard fan, he proudly cheered for the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Chicago Cubs. Following his favorite teams was something he genuinely enjoyed, and his enthusiasm for them was a familiar and endearing part of who he was.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ellen; his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Kendra; his daughter, Deborah, and son-in-law, Chris; his grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah, and Kaitlin; and his sister-in-law, Rose Wing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Lois Wing, and his brother, Russ Wing.

Larry will be remembered for his love of family, his devotion to Ellen, his Catholic faith, his lifelong friendships, traveling, and his passion for the teams he loved. He leaves behind more than memories—he leaves a family who loved him deeply and whose lives are forever shaped by the years they shared with him.

His family finds comfort in knowing that his love, his faith, his values, and the memories he created with them will continue through the generations. He will be deeply missed, but he will always be a part of the family he loved so dearly. He will forever be remembered as “a really good guy”, who was always a pleasure to be around.
