Rose Waltrip, 90, of Elmhurst, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Aug. 16, 2026. She is survived by her sister, Pearl Giammarco of Vero Beach, Florida, and other family members. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard William Kehart.
She was a dear friend, neighbor and treasured member of the Elmhurst community. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome and touched countless lives with her warmth, generosity and wonderful sense of humor.
Rose was deeply committed to The Salvation Army of Oakbrook Terrace and its community and mission. She was also a longtime, valued member of the Crestview Garden Club of Elmhurst.
Rose was truly a force of nature—always with a twinkle in her eye, a wonderful smile and, of course, a story to tell. She was also a garage-sale expert who delighted in finding unique treasures for her annual sale. But perhaps Rose’s greatest treasures were the friendships she made. She had a gift for sharing a laugh, lending a helping hand and making an ordinary day more memorable. Her generosity, zest for life and unmistakable spirit will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 1S415 Summit Ave., Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois 60181. Food will be served following the service.
