Beautiful fall weather greeted the estimated 90 people who participated in the 2026 Great Prairie CROP Hunger Walk held in Lombard on Sunday, Oct. 4. These 90 individuals made up 13 teams that completed the 3-mile Prairie Path/Great Western Trail route. This year’s CROP Hunger Walk has raised $18,300, but organizers expected a few more donations to come in towards reaching its $25,000 goal. The walk theme was Reach for the Stars—Walk for Our Neighbors to honor Terry Witt, a longtime supporter of the walk, educator, astronomer, cyclist and person of deep faith. Witt’s two nieces took part in the walk and talked about how he loved the CROP Walk. After the walk, walkers packed 100 hygiene kits for Church World Service. On Friday, Oct. 2, the CROP Hunger Walk held a mini-walk for Beacon Hill residents, who walked about the pond at Beacon Hill. The funds will support Church World Service international disaster relief and five local food pantries: The Outreach House, Lombard; Community Table, Lombard; Disciples Food Pantry, Villa Park; Food for the Soul, Addison; and United Community Concerns Association, Elmhurst.
